Product Details

Our Mies Prefinished Engineered Hardwood is proudly made in Europe with outstanding manufacturing quality. The plank features a 1/8 inch wear layer, an Ultra-matte UV Urethane w/ Aluminum Oxide finish, and micro-beveled edges for a modern and minimal appearance with extreme durability. Let’s discuss these features in even more detail!

You may be wondering how the 1/8 inch wear layer affects your floors… stay tuned for a complete blog on the topic! In short, a 1/8 inch wear layer will last the average person around 100 years and withstand multiple rounds of sanding.

The finish on hardwood flooring is more than just aesthetics, it can also impact durability. The Aluminum Oxide finish on the Mies plank acts as a protective layer with a significantly higher scratch resistance compared to oil finished floors.

Finally, the micro-beveled edges on the long sides of the plank help to elongate the floor and create the appearance of one continuous plank when installed. This makes the Mies plank a great spec for a modern and minimal design aesthetic!

Product Inspiration

Interested in a bit of an art history lesson? This product and the name “Mies” were inspired by the great Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Mies was a key member of the Bauhaus movement, and he is widely known as an architect of some of the most famous buildings in the United States, such as the Seagram Building in New York City. His famous “less is more” philosophy and focus on minimal forms made him an icon in Modernist architecture. Some even call him the “Father of Minimalism”. Which is why it felt fitting to name the prime grade, long length engineered hardwood planks after him. A prime grade plank features minimal natural variations, making it virtually free from knots. When installed, it creates a very clean, modern, and minimal aesthetic reminiscent of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

That’s a wrap on our history lesson (for this blog)!

Install Details

While the Mies plank is certainly fitting for a modern and clean aesthetic, it is also an extremely versatile product that can be installed in a variety of settings, including floors, ceilings, and even wall paneling. In this Michigan home by Devon Grace Interiors, the design team opted to install the 5-1/2 inch wide planks on the floors throughout the entire lake house. This type of installation creates a modern and cohesive flow in a home. Devon Grace Interiors also created a focal point that draws your eyes up and around the space by installing the planks in a grid-like ceiling beam pattern. We love to see this product installed in unexpected ways that give it a custom and bespoke feel.

That sums up just about everything you need to know about our Mies Prefinished Engineered Hardwood. We look forward to highlighting more products and installs with you all soon!
